Kathryn is a blue-blood of aboriginal art. Both her parents are tribal elders. Her mother, Nellie Njamme Napangardi conducts “women’s business” and is a renowned artist and her father, Jimmy Djaindjanu Jampijin is an elder and esteemed law-man.

Kathryn began painting alongside her mother at age 12. The stories that have been passed on to her are skilfully shown in patient, perfect and rhythmic graphics. Her paintings are ideograms - each telling a complex story regarding an event or specific place. Kathryn uses only the colours of country; red ochre, yellow ochre, black and white. These were the colours used by the women in women’s ceremony – the breast and face paintings. These are the colours of her people.

Kathryn puo’ ritenersi di lignaggio aristocratico nel mondo dell’arte aborigena. Ambedue I genitori sono anziani della comunita’. Sua madre Nellie Njamme Napangardi sovrintende alle “faccende di donne” ed e’ una nota artista. Suo padre Jimmy Djaindjanu Jampijin e’ uno stimato uomo di legge.

Kathryn comincio’ a dipingere con sua madre a 12 anni. Le storie che le sono state tramandate sono artisticamente rappresentate con grafica precisa, puntuale e armoniosa. Le sue pitture sono ideogrammi, ognuno dei quali riguarda un complesso racconto relativo a eventi o luoghi specifici

Kathryn usa solo colori della sua terra:ocra rossa e gialla, bianco e nero. Gli stessi colori usati dalle donne nelle cerimonie femminili per dipingere seno e volto. Questi sono I colori della sua gente
